Name: Mieke Bazen
Hometown: Five years ago, my husband and I moved to Corsica, SD. We moved from Grand Rapids, MI.
Local SDFRW Club: Aurora/Douglas Republican Women
Where were you born? I was born in the Netherlands, and my family moved to MI in 1974. I became a citizen in 1980 at the age of 14. We had a pig farm for 10 years.
Education: I have a high school education, and I have volunteered for 10+ years as a Home Ec teacher’s aid in a private school.
Professional Career: I have no professional career, but I’ve been a mom for 34 years and a grandma for 7. I have volunteered all my adult life, and now I’m interested in SD programs.
Why do you belong to SDFRW: Belonging to a Republican group of women is a wonderful opportunity that came my way. Ronald Reagan was the very first president I voted for, and I can’t wait to see where this new chapter leads me.
Who is your favorite Republican and why? There are many respected Republican men and women in the public office. It was a great honor to meet Governor Noem at the Charles-Mix County Lincoln Day Dinner, and I can’t wait to see how this election year ends up.
Favorite quote or Bible verse: Psalm 118:24 – This is the day which the Lord hath made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it.
