SDFRW helps candidates in many ways – here’s a sample of the support we’re planning to provide this year! Please note: We target contested races where there’s only one Republican running.
- In the spring, we help with local elections: city council, mayoral, and school board. The GOP doesn’t often help such candidates, so we’re their main support. We drive the Get Out the Vote effort crucial to Republican victories in low-turnout elections!
For example: we’re jumping in with both feet to help a Republican defeat two socialists for Sioux Falls’ City Council At-Large Seat. With a huge area to cover in a very short time, this is not going to be an easy race. By April 9th, he has to reach the entire City of Sioux Falls, whose population equals 10 legislative districts! If he wins, Republicans maintain a Council majority. If he loses, the Council will split 4-4. To prevent Sioux Falls from going the way of Minneapolis and to prevent South Dakota from going the way of Minnesota, this race is a must win. Therefore, SDFRW is going all-in to make sure we do! We’ll energize high-propensity Republican voters. As we’re handling conservative Republicans, the campaign is free to focus on winning over reasonable Independents. Together, we’ll ensure Republicans hold the majority of the Sioux Falls City Council!
Beyond recruiting volunteers, we purchase radio ads and digital billboards. We conduct live trainings to teach volunteers how to knock on doors, answer questions, and persuade voters, and we’ve taken steps toward creating a series of training videos that will help candidates and volunteers improve door knocking skills even further!
- This summer and fall, after the primary, we’ll shift our focus to supporting legislative and statewide races. We’ll train candidates and volunteers, and we’ll connect candidates with SDFRW members who can walk in parades, put out / pick up signs, knock on doors, etc. We’re especially committed to keeping an experienced Republican voice on South Dakota’s Public Utilities Commission; we anticipate helping the primary victor with constituent outreach, sign locations, parade volunteers, and event attendance.
- We’ll help battleground states triumph in November. In ‘24, we’re hyper focused on our neighbor, Montana. Even liberal pundits admit that whoever holds Montana gains a “crucial” advantage in winning the Senate majority! Our team was essential to re-electing Sen. Steve Daines in 2020. Before our visit, he lagged in the polls. After we arrived, Daines took the lead, finished strong, and won. This year, we’ll turn out in force to defeat Democrat Jon Tester, flipping that seat from Biden Blue to Republican Red!

That’s just the start – there are so many other ways we help!
- We just launched our wildly popular Republican Events Calendar, keeping candidates and Party faithful informed about what’s happening across South Dakota. For candidates and county GOPs, we list Lincoln Day Dinners, meetings, lunches, watch parties, and other functions. We also highlight events and important dates for SDFRW and our clubs as well as the College Republicans, Young Republicans, and Teenage Republicans. There are so many listings that decided we color-code them. We even added a filter to sort specific event types.

- We help county GOPs host Lincoln Day Dinners by publicizing events, recruiting speakers, selling tickets, and providing volunteers, desserts, and auction items. Our ladies do a phenomenal job traveling to and attending these events, filling the seats with an enthusiastic audience.
- We staff county and state fair GOP booths. This year, if the GOP isn’t sponsoring a booth, we’ll have our own booth at gun shows, rodeos, and fairs. Beyond conducting voter outreach, we’ll distribute campaign materials and offer candidates a terrific opportunity to engage with the public.
- We register voters, especially 18- and 19-year-olds. We provide these new voters with registration forms, educate them about the registration process, and produce videos starring their contemporaries that emphasize the importance and the ease of registering. Past videos have featured a member of the USF wrestling team and a Miss South Dakota pageant winner.
We work hard to have very positive impact as we help Republicans defeat Democrats! To learn about SDFRW’s other projects, take a look at our 2023 Year End video! https://youtu.be/wbz-124kBbM
