From The President's Desk

As we watch our neighbor to the east sink deeper and deeper into trouble, we wonder how the Land of 10,000 Lakes – a stunningly beautiful Midwestern state – could have sunk so low so fast. The answer: Liberals captured Minneapolis. Once the state’s largest city turned blue, Minnesota’s downfall was inevitable.

South Dakota risks following in Minnesota’s footsteps. Today, Republicans hold a 6-2 majority on Sioux Falls’ City Council. That will change April 9th. Best case scenario, the Council will be a 5-3 split in which Republicans have a slight advantage. Worst case scenario, the Council will be tied: 4-4. Whether Republicans retain their majority will be determined by one race, wherein a registered Republican faces two socialists. Simply put, this contest is a must win – not just for Sioux Falls, but for the entire state.

It'll be a tough fight. The “At Large” District covers the whole city, roughly 10x the voters in a typical legislative district. Since municipal ballots don’t indicate party affiliation, voters may not know which candidate is the Republican. We have less than a month to get the word out.

Making matters worse, observers project a record low turnout. As The Argus Leader’s Trevor Mitchell explained Tuesday:

In April 2016, the next most recent non-mayoral election, voter turnout hit a dismal 11.33%. That was in an election with four contested council races and several amendments to the city’s charter. With only two council races on the ballot this year, it doesn’t seem impossible that the April 9 election could see turnout drop even lower than that, perhaps into SINGLE DIGITS.

And as the election also includes two school board seats, left-leaning public-school employees will vote en masse. Luckily, it’s still a Red State. If Republicans show up to vote, we’ll win!

With so much on the line, the South Dakota Federation of Republican Women is turning out in force to clench the Sioux Falls City Council’s deciding seat! Our Get Out The Vote message is already blasting on digital billboards across Sioux Falls, garnering over 60,000 views a week!! We’re hosting a training for Campaign Sidekick, the GOP’s walkbook app. We’ll knock on doors and wave signs. Together, we’ll convince Republicans of the urgency to get out and vote, and with each vote they cast, we’ll move one step closer to victory!

The Minnehaha-Lincoln Republican Women are on the front lines, but we’re asking members statewide for assistance.

As Thomas Jefferson said:

We do not have government by the majority.

We have government by the majority who participate.

To keep South Dakota from going the way of Minnesota, help us keep Sioux Falls from going the way of Minneapolis!!
