To register to vote in South Dakota, you must: Be a United States citizen (South Dakota Constitution, Article VII, Section 2) Reside in South Dakota (residency defined) Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election Not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction. As chair of the Youth Advocacy Committee, I wanted to reach out about an important opportunity for you and your local club!
-The Teen Age Republicans (TARS) is a national, youth-led organization challenging teens to become involved in their local, state, and national political processes.
-TARS across the nation sway elections, gain first-hand knowledge of the political process, develop leadership skills, and perform community service acts in their communities.
-National TARS has clubs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and members in the tens of thousands. Clubs are organized on and off campus into middle school, high school, homeschooled, county and city clubs. TARS are our nation’s greatest hope for the future.
2. How can you help? Encourage someone you know, grades 6-12, to attend the upcoming South Dakota Teen Age Republican Leadership Camp, hosted by SDTARS. Better yet, if it works out, feel free to fall into the footsteps of numerous SDGOP counties and other SDFRW Clubs who work to not only recruit our future young leaders to attend but also work to sponsor them by paying for their registration (or even partial registration), if you have the means to do so!

What: TAR Leadership Camp
TAR Camp is an incredible opportunity to make new friends from across the state, learn about our state and country, and have fun. TAR Leadership Camp is held each year at Camp Rimrock, just 10 miles outside of Rapid City in the beautiful Black Hills. Young people aged 12 to seniors having just graduated from high school are eligible to attend camp. The week will feature a lot of fun and games as well as visits to Mt. Rushmore, Watiki Waterpark, and, on alternate years, the Black Hills Playhouse. TAR Camp gives campers an opportunity to bond in a very special way. Each year, we see the group come in as strangers and leave as great lifelong friends.
When: July 22-27th
Where: 23125 Thunderhead Falls Rd, Rapid City, SD 57702
Cost: The registration cost for the entire week of room and board, food, and scheduled activities is $400

Dear South Dakota Republicans,
We as Republicans want to ensure that our youth are engaged and active at an early age and voter registration is at the “top of the list”. There is a strong possibility that we all know someone who graduated from High School in 2023. While some graduates have already joined the workforce or have honorably chosen to serve our country in the military, others will be packing up and leaving for college or vocational school soon. Therefore, now would be the perfect time for us to encourage these individuals (if they have not already), to not only register to vote, but to register Republican!!!
