MCRW started out the new year on a "Wing and a Prayer!”
In January, Lt. Governor, Larry Rhoden, Senator Dean Wink, Representative Gary Cammack (Majority Whip), and Representative Kirk Chaffee (Majority Whip) were invited to a gathering where they enjoyed hot Wings and were Prayed over to be sent off properly to the South Dakota 2024 Legislature. The delegation also gave us a summary of the work ahead of them. Many came out to brave the cold and we had guests from the Northern Hills Republican Women.
Meade County Republican Women have been finding ourselves very busy in this election cycle. Our speakers for the past few months of February, March, and April were Steve Barnett, Secretary of State, Marty Jackley, candidate for SD Attorney General, Monae Johnson, candidate for SD Secretary of State, and George Eccarious from AFP speaking on Ammendment C. We have seen the numbers for our meetings increase as well as our membership. May's meeting will include candidates running for both Meade County and SD offices. In our community/county, we are seeing unbelievable growth. With the largest county in the state, we are very spread out and have a large number of newcomers as well as native South Dakotans in the Piedmont area, which is along the interstate close to Rapid City. One of our members proposed to have a Meet and Greet/ Candidate Forum in that area since our meetings are in Sturgis. We accepted the challenge. We had a great turnout and most of our county candidates for local and state offices attended and introduced themselves. Following those introductions, we had a candidate forum with our current County Sheriff Ron Merwin, and candidate Pat West. Our own Teresa Thompson was the emcee assisted by Terri Jorgenson asking the questions. Sandy Rhoden worked behind the scenes with the organization and scheduling of events. Lorie Hausmann prepared the food that was served. Henrietta McNenny was in charge of the decorating and did most of it herself. All of these ladies spent many hours in preparation for the event as well as during the Meet and Greet. Thanks to these awesome ladies! It was a great turn out and was a very fun and successful event. We are now preparing for our Lincoln Day Dinner which is coming up on Friday, May 13th. We plan to have a silent auction, live auction, dessert (silent) auction, and 50/50 for the MRCW portion. If you are in the area, we would love to have you attend!
